Governance

The AWA is governed by an operational elected board of directors who are passionate volunteers dedicated to the sport. These board members not only provide strategic oversight but are also actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the association. Together, they establish policies, oversee strategic direction, and ensure that AWA programs align with the values of fairness, inclusivity, and excellence, all while safeguarding the interests of our weightlifting community.

Democratic Leadership

Our board members are elected by our membership, ensuring that the leadership of AWA truly represents the voice of our community. This democratic process allows for fresh perspectives and ideas to continually shape our organization's direction.

Commitment to Best Practices

We aim to adhere to best practices in governance, including regular reviews of our policies and procedures, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with national standards. This commitment helps us foster a positive environment where all members can thrive.

Alberta Weightlifting Association acknowledges that we are on the traditional lands of the Indigenous Peoples who lived among and travelled through the land in the area currently known as Alberta. We honour the Peoples of Treaty 4, 6, 7, 8, and 10, Alberta’s Métis and Inuit people and their profound contributions to the health and well-being of this region and to our members, where we recognize that health and well-being through our sport of weightlifting is not only physical, but also spiritual, emotion and mental and is accessible to all, rooted in the principles of respect, equity, diversity and inclusivity.
